Excerpt from new D&D campaign

Having stopped the prison transfer caravan, with the help of the strangers, to rescue Anda, the party is taken to a small, nearby treetop village called Sindëtauno. The village is entirely in the tree canopy, surrounded by lush evergreen trees on all sides with the buildings built both around and into the trees, probably by some kind of magic, and connected via thick suspension bridges, made primarily of vines (when the players walk on the bridges the notice they don’t sway at all). The village belongs to the Calen to Quendi, or Green Speakers, Elves and the Verdant River Humans.

The Calen to Quendi are a unique tribe of Wood Elves who created a dichotomy when they turned against the Undying Court over 1000 years ago. Their people are a unique sub-race that have the ability to “talk” plants, such as trees, into changing their shape and structure to unnatural shapes, such as the buildings and bridges which make up Sindëtauno.

The Verdant River humans were once a nomadic tribe that would travel up and down the river gabignan (ga-bi-nian) until around 800 years ago when the cities of Usleiþan (uz lie ann), Rausligrs (raw-sligs), and Basiaihvatundi were founded along the river by the King of Gothrastir. The Verdant River tribe were forced to find a new place to call home and ended up settling briefly in the Alþeiswiduz (ol th-is Wee th-osz). For a brief period, fighting between the two tribes broke out before they realised they could foster a mutually beneficial relationship.

From there, the tribes joined together in the treetop village that the Elves had created, the Elves giving the Humans shelter, the Humans teaching the Elves of the land and surrounding kingdoms. Though they generally kept to themselves for centuries, the two peoples went on to live in peace, and the village of Sindëtauno prospered, albeit in secrecy from the rest of the Kingdom of Gothrastir.

It is now the morning following the previous afternoon’s ambush of the caravan, the players have had a full rest, and they find themselves inside a large 25 ft round room. The players are lying on a very large bed together that spreads across the entirety of the east side of the wall, and out 7ft from it. The bed is made of 2ft thick, but soft, green vines, with fur pillows and bed coverings, and at the foot lies all of the player’s belongings along with a small table covered with various pastries, a large jug of dark liquid, a small jug of nut milk, and honey. The other side of the room at the contains a sort of kitchen on the north side and a living space in the south. Above them is another floor the stops around the same length as the bed they are lying up with a vine ladder leading up to it in the north of the room. In the kitchen stands a person with long salt and pepper hair and in the living area sits Anda with one of the strangers who had assisted with the rescue.

Development: The man in the kitchen is a half-elf named Eirwin Trasatra of the calen to quendi tribe. His parents were two of the earliest unions between an Elf and a non-Elf and, as such, is considered one the tribe’s most venerated members. He is a lively talker, friendly, and excitable, but deeply serious about the threat the Empire represents and is willing to go to any lengths to stop its expansion. He is a keen cook and baker and, should the players ask, Eirwin will go into a lengthy discussion/monologue about the pasties he prepared for them.

The stranger with Anda is a Wood Elf named Wynzana Trasatra, she is Eirwin’s mate and the commander of Queen Yllaxina’s guard (the closest thing that Sindëtauno has to an army) . She is a careful and zealous hunter who takes pride in her ability to surprise anyone and anything with enough foreplanning. She is conversing with Anda about a meeting with the now-deposed King of Gothrastir, concerned that he can’t be trusted and that helping him might leave Sindëtauno vulnerable as it may require revealing it’s location to outsiders en masse for the first time in 800 years.
